At Starfish Malawi we strongly believe in the combined power of individuals working together to make positive changes to our world. No matter how big or small, young or old we can all do something to make a difference.

Joe's challenge for Starfish Malawi perfectly demonstrates that by simply giving up something we enjoy doing for one day, we can all make a huge difference to the lives of others.

Please find below a message we received recently from Joe's mum.

‘Hi there - my son Joe has devised the ‪#‎NoTV4Starfish‬ charity challenge to raise money for Starfish Malawi. He explains it all in the video below.

Anyone can get involved - give up TV for 24 hours, nominate some of your friends to do the same thing and donate just a little pocket money to Starfish Malawi’s Just Giving page.

Together we can make a world of difference.’

What an amazing idea Joe. WELL DONE!

Did you know?

  • One 50kg bag of maize (staple food in Malawi) costs approximately £15 and will feed a family of 4 for 6 weeks. In difficult times Starfish Malawi also distributes free bags of maize to the local community based around the Glad Tidings Orphan Care Centre.
  • It costs approximately £60 per week to provide 950 meals at Glad Tidings from Monday to Saturday. The centre supports 120 pre-school children (Monday-Friday) as well as running a Saturday club for over 350 orphaned children in the community. Matched with an early learning education programme, Starfish Malawi also provides one meal a day for every child attending the centre throughout the week. Due to cases of extreme poverty in some areas of the community,  for many children this will be the only meal they will receive all day.

Bearing this in mind your donations will go a very long way. So a BIG thank you Joe, Olly, Ollie O, Thomas, Matthew, Bobby, George, Honor, Saskia, Daniel and the Marriage family for demonstrating what it means to be true Starfishers!
