Year 5 Curriculum Activity G:

Trees, Land Management and Deforestation.

Start with the Shared Curriculum document, (Shared Curriculum Document Year 5) which outlines the topics studied in the curriculum in in your Year Group both in Malawi and the UK around the topics of 'The importance of trees, land management, deforestation and soil erosion'. These topics are being studied as part of your normal activities. We want to bring your lesson alive, as you share your findings with Malawi.

Activity G - The importance of trees

  • Discuss and investigate the use made of trees in both countries. Why are they important? Compare findings between the UK and Malawi. What does it tell us about our connection to the land? Can you also name the trees in your school grounds?

Biodiversity is the most common word used to describe the variety of life and it's habitats on earth.  Our gentle web of eco systems that binds us all  together is being stretched almost beyond repair in so many countries around the world.
